A woman called Gloria Jones originally sang Tainted Love in the 1960's but I have never, never heard it and have not been able to track it down.

Soft Cell came around at a crossover time between New Romantics and the Goth scene and Marc Almond and David Ball were welcomed heartily into both. Tainted Love was loved artistically and as a dance single and made a bomb. Showed my generation another side of life: love can be a bitter pill.

The Marilyn Manson version was well constructed but does not make the impact that Soft Cell ever did. Manson's version only gets the angry idea across, he leaves out the bitterness.

The original version is the best...performed by Gloria Jones. It's a Northern Soul classic. Love both Soft Cell and Marilyn Manson's versions too!!

Of all the versions I prefer the Soft Cell version, Marilyn Manson's take was pretty good until he screwed it up at the end.

I have to say I loved the Soft Cell version when it came out but Manson re invented it and that then became my fav. However last new years eve Jools Holland had Marc Almond on his show and Almond did a more crooner/jazzy version of a few of his old hit including Tainted Love. They where all fantatsic so I guess now I'm back to Almond's new version!
Manson looks a whole lot cooler though and the video was much more my kinda thing!
As for Gloria Jones's version it was week! She was also driving the mini that killed Marc Bolan so I think that kinda wipes her out of the equation!
