Our own Queen Victoria did not do to badly she reigned from 20th June 1837 until her death on 22nd January 1901, which makes 64 years? And what about Queen Elizabeth she has already done over 53 years and does not look like she is ready to stand aside for her son to take her place ( can`t say I blame her) so it`s anyone`s guess how many more year`s she will be on the throne?

The King who reigned the longest was Rames II of Egypt who was on the throne for over 70 years. Of the current bunch the King of Thailand has reigned the longest; he has been on the throne since 5 May 1950.

Three monarchs stand out in my mind; King Louis XIV of France, Queen Elizabeth I of England, and Queen Victoria of England.

King Louis' successor was not his son but was either his grandson or great-grandson (I can't remember which). That's how long he reigned....he was on the throne for so long that he outlived his own kid.

Queen Liz reigned a long time but she didn't marry which meant no heir so her cousin (I think) King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England after she died (he may have been a great Scottish monarch but didn't fare well in England).

Queen Victoria outlived her beloved husband Albert by about 50-60 years (after Albert died, she spent 10 years in secluded mourning for him until she befriended her personal assistant, Scotsman John Brown). After Vicky died, her son assumed the throne....when he was already a grandfather (he died 10 years later).
