I dunno - are you sure the theatres you go to aren't all owned by the same person [who really likes Jenny Lewis]?
If it makes you feel better, I used to work at an Indie movie theatre and we never had a Jenny Lewis song play.

"Indie" often refers to an artist or band that is not part of the mainstream culture and/or is making music outside its influence.
Jenny Lewis is a current member and lead singer of the indie band Rilo Kiley as well as a solo musician.
I think there may be a connection here. Also the Owner/Manager may be a Jenny Lewis fan.
Also, she is a playable character in the on line flash game, Emogame 2, part of the popular Emogame series.

The entertainment business. sell sell sell. The indie movie theaters play the artist they get a piece of the action from in cd sells. They are promoting the people who have songs that you would not normally hear on the top 40 hoping to boost sales.
