As already mentioned, give him a few days to settle down. Then put your hand, palm up, towards him and let him be the one to come see you. If you let him get up on your shoulder and want him off use the same procedure if you can. As someone else also mentioned, try not to get bit, cause it does pinch. I don't know what kind he is, but treat him gently and you two should get along just fine.

Wait a couple of days for him to settle into his surroundings before yo start handling him. Even though he is not highly venomous, it would still hurt if he bit you.
