affirmative action was created so the black Americans will get equal opportunity to get hired, however, it is now a form of discrimination. I have been passed over many times because I'm not black. Even though I have an education and experience. What hurts the most is that they are hiring black people that are not qualified and are not even Americans. Mostly from the islands and they don't even speak English well. The action was created to right the wrongs for the American blacks, the ones that are born here, because of how their ancestors were treated, so why hire people that were not born here or whose parents were not? I guess if you're black, you're lucky no matter where you from. By the way, its just my experience, so please don't be rude or get on my case and tell me it's not true. Thank you.

Affirmitive Action is discrimination. It places one race or gender above another, and that is the definition of discrimination. Just because one race or gender is in the minority does not make discrimination right. Any favoring of one group over another is wrong, surely any person who favors logic above emotion can see this to be the case.

The way it is today is most certainly a form of discrimination. Back when it was established in the NIXON administration, it was designed so that if there were two people of equal qualifications competing for a job or position, but one was a "minority" or a woman, the minority or woman would get first crack at it. Today, that is not the case, and as a woman, I strongly oppose the way it is abused. If I'm in the ER for surgery, I want the most qualified person operating, and that is ALL I want.

Whether or not it is discrimination isn't an ambiguous issue - it is flat out discrimination. However, some people think that it is deserved discrimination and others don't. I know I would feel ashamed if i felt that I got my job or my college degree because someone thought I needed help based on an ethnic background I had no control over, and that someone else who tried just as hard failed through no fault of their own. That isn't right, regardless of "past inequities."

Isn't it funny how people with good intention end up doing the same bad thing that they are trying to fight against? There's got to be a better way. This only hurts the people who had nothing to do with the problem in the first place.

affirmative action can be taken in a bad way. Hiring people based on anything but their unique qualifications is a bad thing. Affirmative action was started to protect minorities in the employment field. It can be used about women, disabilities, racial properties. I don't agree with affirmative action. Everybody should be hired regardless of their gender, race, etc.......

That's when someone hires a minority whether or not s/he can do the job, isn't it? I'm all for equal rights, but yes, that is discrimination.
