In my family, my wife and I chose to have option #3 Combined (We both have our own individual accounts and one joint account and joint credit cards for family use--paying the bills..etc)

Up until about 2 years ago, everything was joint and I handled paying all of the bills. However, once I went back to school and had no income, my husband took over that responsibility. We are separated now and have separate accounts but since all of our credit is still joint, we consult on payments, etc.

separate accounts and the bills were divided between the accounts with each paid off bill being replaced by another of equal value from the other's account so both of us are paying out the same amount each week. What ever is left is that person's money. Rather like a pardnership.that supports each other

We have separate and joint accounts. Since each account is only insured by FDIC to 100K per person, we open additional separate accounts as well as extra accounts in other financial institutions out of necessity. Even though, my wife takes care of the finance of the house, we both have all the accounts information in case of unforseen circumstances.

We have a joint account, and my husband still has his own account from before we were married. We just pretend it's not there until we need it. We're pretty honest with each other about what we buy, so it's not a big deal. Also, we both bring in about equal paychecks.

We are both working. We have separate accounts. But my wife manages all the finances for home running. At the beginning of the month I give her some money. She manages everything. There is no 'your payment' or my payment thing. Its how you understand each other and trust each other that matters. Friction arises sometimes regarding some spending, but friction is always good for family living. It means you are alive and kicking.

Whatever works.
In our case, separate accounts.
Then its a negotiation as to who pays for what. I end up paying most of the things, as I earn more.
She pays other things like childrens education, holidays etc.
The separate accounts give us the flexibility to buy things we want (within reason) without having to justify.
If on the other hand, I ever (and I do sometimes for fleeting moments) start thinking about whether we are contributing equally or fairly, I go nuts, so I do not go there.
Happy with the way things are... whatever floats your boat I say.

I don't work so hubby pays for everything. I stay at home with the kids. I have the credit cards....lol
Well That's how it is here. The reason I don't work is because he doesn't won't me too. I'm not just being a bum. I take care of the other things that need to be done in home and other.

Jointly whats mine is his, what's his is mine. We are a complete union. We don't need seperate bank accounts. Actually we do keep a seperate bank account but that's for ebay transactions and both our names are on it.
