You got married so you had one valid one before you got married, and then you got one when you got married with your married name.

I think Jim and georgette have twigged it. If you had one, got married (or divorced, for that matter) and then got another, the earlier one would no longer be valid (an expiry date still in the future notwithstanding) since its data is no longer true and accurate. Same as if you had one and then had children and had your children added to your passport.
