The Great Gatsby is my favorite work by Fitzgerald. I loved the novel and liked the movie quite a bit. The movie doesn't stay true to the book, but what movie is able to capture everything from a book? I thought Robert Redford was a wonderful Gatsby because he portrayed the dreamy, vulnerable beauty of the character. I've heard that there is a new version in production, but I doubt that it will be better than the Redford version.

My favorite part of the book occurs when Nick Carraway sees Jay Gatsby looking across the bay at Daisy Buchanan's dock, watching the green light with all the hope of a reunion but still separated. Gatsby, to me, is the best representative of the American Dream in all of its possibilities and its disillusionment.

1. I have seen the movie and read the book. I liked the book better because it was more my own conception of what Fitzgerald meant as opposed to someone elses. I must say though the movie was excellent.

2. When Jay Gatsby is killed. It is so incredibly tragic. I also love the scene where Gatsby and Daisy meet again after having been parted for so long and Nicks part in the reunion.

3. My favorite part of the book is the strong symbolism in "the green light" that Gatsby looks toward. It has so many meanings and I think it challenges us to look at Gatsby as a deeper figure than he initially appears.

4. Tender is the Night is my favorite Fitzgerald book.
