Yes it is our responsibility to a certain point. But we also have to keep in mind that some people don't want to be helped and don't want to help themselves. Some are proud and don't want to feel like 'poor people'.

Not everyone discusses how they treat poor people. Americans are incredibly generous and often give private help to organizations to aid the poor. You do not give specific examples, but if you are talking about street people for instance, some may be dangerous and there are organizations that do help these people.
I am not sure if you are writing from the US but, for instance after visiting the Philippines I have to say it was a very hard country to be in. Americans were treated like walking pocketbooks and after a while I found myself getting rude. Nothing else seemed to work. We went there doing missions work so gave time and money and it never seemed to be enough even though everyone was nice as they tried to get more.
So all I can say is I think it has to do with the situation.

Poor people tells me nothing. I don't know what kind of poor people you're talking about.
I personally, am very rude to lazy, pushy, manipulative, street people who also happen to be poor. I wouldn't give them a dime.
On the other hand, people who are in unfortunate circumstances, or down on their luck, but trying to make it back, truly have my sympathy. When I learn of such cases in my personal life, I do or give what I can.

It's not our responsibility to take care of the whole damned world. They need to take care of themselves too. I take care of myself. Besides, I don't have any extra time for them because I'm too busy working to make money to pay taxes that go to welfare programs to help poor people already.
Stop being so damned idealistic. It's annoying.

Not no one my friend. There are still people out there who reach out to poor people like me. However, the number is so small. I just wish more rich people would take kindly to them. Maybe that's how things really wok.Let's just pray that someday, all would really be equal.

Some need to feel superior to others. But your attitude is wiser.
