Modern cars (i.e., most cars built after 1988) have fuel-injection engines with oxygen sensors that will attempt to adjust the air-fuel mixture for the extra oxygenation of E85, with variable effects on performance. All such cars can burn small amounts of E85 with no ill effects.
The main problem is if you use E85 continuously it will deteriorate rubber, magnesium an aluminum parts in the fuel system.
A 50/50 mixture in a tank of fuel will mix with any gasoline and remove any water that is in the tank.
Not a big problem. Just don't expect it to run as well as regular fuel. E85 does not have the energy per gallon that gasoline has and requires more fuel to air mix to operate the engine.

You risk fuel leaks and damage because hoses, couplers, o-rings, seals, and gaskets are not rated for e85. What you can do is to fill up rest of the tank with regular gasoline. When you have more space in tank, put in more to top it off. If you do this, concentration of alcohol will be low enough to prevent damage.

If it's just once, not much. Car will run fine but you will lose some gas milage. I did that once with my 85 Caprice just to see what would happen. Car started and ran like normal. Drove it for another year and sold it. Would be problem with long term use as posted by others.

the e-85 will run good in it i have used it a little,,with no after effects at all,,and you don't have to buy a new engine to burn it,,my god,,why don't people do research before they answer a question,,it will effect certain rubber parts after a while,,but the true effects are not known yet,,like i said i have used it in my family car which is a 98 dodge stratus,,and it did OK,,i actually noticed a little better performance from it,,it wont ruin any thing,,if it did they couldn't sell it,,you would think that people would at least try something before shooting it down,,i hope this help,s,,i mechanic for a living.,,,,PS dont have to look up my answers on the net,,they come from experience,,and thats hard to beat.

http://autorepair.about.com/b/a/220059.htm its not worth the risk is it? its not cheaper and you will get slightly less mpg, the main advantage to e85 is it reduces our oil dependency and pollution, which is great but wait to you get a car designed to use it, its corrosive to your fuel system, it won't cause a problem immediately but eventually it might

Something really bad. As far as I know, you have to convert your engine or get a new one or something like that for it to work. Don't do it unless you know what you're getting yourself into, which you obviously don't.

the ethanol will brake down the rubber in your fuel system. hoses, seals, etc. wont harm your engine like some have said.
