Good question ! I don't know what era you maybe from , I remember when sodas were in glass bottles and believe me their is a BIG difference in taste. I am from Texas and there's a soda named BIG RED . I sure do miss that soda in a glass bottle. And no ! It's not a southern thing.

Maybe its the way the mason jar makes the iced-tea hit your tongue.

that's a very good question.

maybe it's the angle and velocity at which the ice tea enters your mouth from said jar mixed with the particular taste characteristics of tea!
