The typical local standard of living I have found very few westerners can stand for more than a few days.

It is a very basic existence and you would live day-to-day, almost hand-to-mouth.

The 15k PHP amount you quoted would not cover emergencies such as medical/dental expenses and western type expenses such as eating out, clubbing, air-conditioning, casual shopping, tuition at a good school, a car/gasoline and most appliances.

You can allot 100-200 a day for food and other small expenses. The unit is 3000, how about the electric and water bills? The basic wage here is 7000+/mo. but tax will be deducted,SSS and philhealth too. So, you will be bringing home 6000 or less. But the 15000/mo. will be a bit short. You really have to plan things like cooking (as you have said) is a good idea. Hope I helped you.

it depends where do u plan to stay.if ur staying in the metro manila,i mean the city,ur PHP15,000 isnt enough.esp if u choose places like the fort or in makati, ortigas etc.if u say south, where in particular, visayas or mindanao?its cheaper in the province.in my place (north)i could rent a whole house for only PHP5,000/month but the average wage is around PHP235.00/day.u try to read this link,it'll give u more ideas how it is to live in the philippines..

well, where are u from?
what type of living do u want? minimum wage is around 300 pesos that is 6 dollars/ day. now if ur from a rich country u'll probably live a good life here.
15,000 a month is a good salary tho not enough if ur planning to live w/ "extras"

1000 USD per month is a good start. Any less and you are giving up thing you may want later. Like hot and cold running water. A clean floor. Etc

The Php15K you have is enough as your monthly spending money (food, utilities, emergency expenses, etc.)

Hey, that's nice. I think you'll live there comfortably with 20,000 ph/p if just by yourself without any other reponsibilities.
