Just when I think I won't come here anymore, because I am tired of the same old attention seekers, uninspired questions and answers[my personal pet-peeve is when someone answers a question with "2 pts"], I find two or three really good questions, with lots of helpful, intelligent answers like I found tonight. I'm glad I did not have to pick a best answer, they were all different, and helpful. The asker had commented on the answers to her question, saying she was going to have to copy all of the answers, so she would remember them all, they were so good. How nice!
So, both. I have been expecting, and lately seeing the worst, of humanity, and am so happy and surprised when I see the best.
I'm a little older than the rest of the folks here, so I have trouble with the X-rated stuff, and not nice language.. I don't mean people should not ask a legitimate question about a delicate subject. But, for example, asking a dirty question about gravy and a stepsister, and putting it in the food section is not welcome. I wish we could have a section entitled " dirty, filthy comments here", and let them all talk it to each other. Yes, Yahoo! employees, I know it isn't possible.
So yes, I have been disappointed, and disgusted, but I have also seen some nice people who just want to help someone, and learn and have fun.

Weakened BIG TIME. I'm in law enforcement (four years and counting) and I've seen some pretty bad things: mother getting her 8 and 5 year olds to steal and then denying that they're hers; 32-year-old groping a 13-year-old from behind while she was resisting; dude getting shot over a dime of weed (and DOA), so I've never had a positive outlook on humanity.

But some of the things people say in here are just downright disgusting. The attack on Jews recently, ignorance on other people's beliefs, Christians being self-absorbed by claiming that their faith and belief is the "only true" religion and that every other ones are a farce (and they wonder why there's an atheist-christian jihad going on). Geez, people show some respect for your fellow human beings and you will be respected yourselves!

Pretty much the same - I am still holding humanity at arms length and sizing it up. At least all the hate filled morons are safely inside away from others tapping away at their keyboards. The rest of us need to get some fresh air!

Some very nice people are on here, with smart, thoughtful answers, some funny ones, and many many idiots - but as in everything, I think it's a good balance.

There always has to be a balance. So all is well with humanity I think. Same as it ever was.

No big change. There are idiots and brains and trolls and curious and all other kinds. It's mostly been fun.

I have noticed some people seem to have "answering systems" that are centered on getting 10pts by seeming to answer questions - but oftne do not.

It's like they have several instances of Notepad open with a set of canned answers and sit on one category. When a question comes up.. copy, paste. It often does not quite answer the question but always looks impressive. Many people who do not know better are impressed enough to select/vote for them. It appears to be the fast track to getting a high level. A bit speculative, but based on seeing a lot of answers that look like reruns.

So, my faith in humanity includes faith some people will do anything for a little unearned glory.

Glad you asked. It has re-affirmed what I believe about humanity. I have found that giving people the correct answer, whether it is what they want to hear or not, doesn't earn one points. I mainly answer technical questions. It is difficult to tell someone that their 8 year old computer can't really run DVD software and produce a decent picture. Though the answer is quite accurate, they didn't want to hear that it seems and I don't get chosen for the best answer. It happens everytime.

Now, I only answer questions that bring positive news to people unless I feel like venting as I have done here. Thanks.

Weakened...I mean, I should not be surprised at all the hate, arrogance and stupidity...but my first inclination is to believe in the good inside a person and give them the benefit of the doubt...but seeing some of the answers and responses here, it's clear that most people do not want the benefit of the doubt...they just want to hate.

I don't suppose I understand completely your question about strengthening or weakening my faith in humanity, but I will try to help you on this.
I have set moral standards that I abide by. I will not go any futher than the standards I have set for MYSELF.
For others here on this site, I am amused, I am disgusted, I am turned off by some of the silliness about serious questions, and irritated by the people who just want to cause an uproar and get people to report them for saying something volitile.
For others here on this site, I am uplifted, I am educated, I am communicating with professionals, I am commnicating with amateurs. I am communicating with people who have life experience. and I am communicating with people who are my superiors in book knowledge.
For others on this site, I am called stupid, I am told I am too pitiful, I am told to stop asking and answering questions because I am not equipped to do so.
But as you can see I am still here, asking and answering.
So I suppose it has only confirmed my faith in humanity. There are different people with different ideas of humor and knowledge, all of my life they have been there and all of my life they will remain. I see nothing to tell me differently just because I am not dealing strictly with people from my country , religion, gender, and race. People are people all over the world.
I could write a coca cola commercial couldn't I .

Hasn't made a lot of difference. I'd say there are just about as many idiots as you find, say, driving down the highway. All the stupid rants get a bit wearing, but considering what passes for news these days, it's no wonder so many people have screwed up ideas about how the world works.

Y! Answers has weakened my faith in humanity. It has shown me how lazy and uneducated a lot of people really are. By doing simple research people can find answers to several of their questions but do they do the research? No. They expect others to do it for them.
