Okay, so that was a tad melodramatic. I have depression, generalized anxiety disorder, ADHD and a pinch of OCD, and I was wondering: does anyone know anything that could help to suppress one or more of these mental illnesses? I'm not talking about medication, therapy or electric shock. I'm talking about old wives' tales, like the ones that help bug bites and stomach aches. This is probably a stupid question with no answers, but I'm extremely curious.

I have had panic disorder for years. I have studied and read just about every theory on it and every treatment for it. At the moment, I am seeming to be doing better. I'll just share some things I've learned:

1. I've come to believe that it's possible panic disorder can be the result of another illness, or energy imbalance in your body. You could be allergic to something and that could be the cause. Check out the website www.naet.com. I'm doing NAET treatment for multiple allergies and we treated the emotion of "panic" and I've been doing better!

2. Paxil Sucks big time. Getting off it was Hell. Did that for 3 years and it probably caused some other health problems I'm experiencing.

3. If you have a phobia or specific fear try EFT. Go to www.emofree.com or try hypnosis. Because of my suffering with anxiety and panic attacks I've become a Certified Hypnotist. Questions, e-mail me.

4. Find a natural Doctor-one that does muscle response testing- and find out which vitamins and minderals your body is lacking. I feel better on high does of Magnesium.

5. I'm also doing a parasite cleansing because they too can cause a whole host of problems and energy imbalances.

6. If you want to understand the energy of your body better, I reccommend a book by Donna Eden called Energy Medicine.

7. And...aromatherapy. Lavender oil is great for panic. Young Living essential oils are the best. They have supplements that contain essential oils that you can injest.

8. If you have a health food store, I would look for a Bach's Flower Essence called "Rescue Remedy." Flower essences are great for emotional stuff. Just read their labels for the exact emotional issue you're having.

9. prayer and reading scripture, especially the psalms are there for us in our times of suffering.

Okay, that's it!

There are herbologists that could tell you about specific herbals that may or may not help you out. Do talk to a doctor before mixing anything mentioned here with any other meds. Whatever else you do, (and I think you've probably already heard this), best treatment outcomes ALWAYS include some form of talk therapy. If the person you were seeing wasn't doing it, I'd suggest seeing someone else. Or, if the TYPE of therapy wasn't doing it, try something else. Behavioral Cognitive Thereapy is going to be a lot different from InterPersonal Therapy.

It's not a stupid question, bro, this is one of the more intelligent ones I've seen all day. I have both chronic depression and anxiety disorder. I've had it all my life and I'm 23 now. Nothing really worked for me. I didn't like how the meds always gave me dry mouth; never had a good psychiatrist to talk to, just things like that.

And dude, it never goes away. Whenever you think that it gets too much, or people just don't understand you and your way of thinking, just remember that other people like us are going through it as well, so you're not the only one.

a touch of OCD, that's funny. Forget the old wive's tales, they are just tales. Medication and therapy, that's it.
