Will surf booties prevent a stingray from being able to sting your foot?

If so, how thick should the booties be?

I would be concerned more about about the leg getting stung than the foot, as the ray's stinger is not at the tip of the tail, but about 2/3 of the way down the end. It is a separate piece from the tail. You would have to step on it for your foot to get stung, but it can swing it against your leg and sting you that way.
