OK, I'll keep this short and easy. I've been back on birth control since January. My b/f and I don't use condoms, which is why I'm asking this. Oh, and no flames plz, this is serious! I got my period last month(Jul 27th) and it was a little lighter than normal. Not horribly light but enough that I noticed. It was about 4 days long, and normal length for me is 5-6 days. I haven't taken a test yet, but I have pregnancy symptoms even though I got my period. Nausea, headache, fatigue, smell sensitivity, etc. I'm still on my B.C now(orth tri-cyclen lo), what should I do....besides take a test, I know that, i'm just scared to. What do you guys think, help and advice much apperciated!!

Hmmm...I asked for no flames, but oh well, 90% of the advice was great. Just to clear things up, I'm not a promiscous teen, I'm a 21 yr old college junior, my fiancee is in the air force, and we've BOTH been tested for STD's, and are both free and clear on those grounds. We both want children, but didn't exactly 'plan' for something like this while I'm in school. So maturity and responsibility for our, ahem, actions are handled as well. Thanks again!

First off, if you've been on the pill regularly since January, you should be used to however your periods have changed (if at all) b/c of it. They can make your periods lighter (b/c they thin the lining that builds up every month), and some women have bad reactions to some brands, as every one has a little different makeup. The pill is 99% effective when taken completely correctly. Every day at the same time. In general it is 93%-97% effective b/c most women don't take it correctly all the time. Added to that, taking antibiotics or some other medications can make the pill not work as well. I have no idea how much you weigh, but the pill is not as affective for women over 150lbs.

Secondly, you CAN have a period while pregnant. Some women's periods don't stop while pregnant, and the pill can cause you to keep having periods, b/c it makes you shed some of the lining of your uterus whether your pregnant or not. Also, some women have 'implantation bleeding' about 5 days after conception, when baby hooks onto uterine lining.

Thirdly, there's no reason to stop taking the pill until you know you are pregnant. The hormones in the pill are the same hormones naturally in your body anyways, and there is no research saying that modern birth control pills (which are much lower dosages than past) will hurt a baby. Many many MANY women take BC until they realize they are pregnant (me included). My Dr. said not to worry about it.

There is nothing inherently wrong with OrthoTricyclen. I was on it, it made me a little nauseaus, so I switched. But every woman is different. It's not going to hurt you. Go ahead and take a test, but make a Dr. appt., too, just to make sure. You can also ask to change pills if you don't like this one.

I dont know much but I know more than some people that have answered this question because I am an intern at a hospital to be an OBGYN (obstetrician/gynecologist).If you are pregnant and when you get into your later months of pregnancy like 9 to 10 months and want to induce labor with out going to the hospital have sex I know most doctors tell you not to do it but it helps besides it what do you think the doctors do? The doctors technique hurts ALOT worse anyways.Ok you might be pregnant because the blood might not be your period it could have been an awful rip with conception and lasted days. The symptoms sound like a pregnancy except for a headache most women who have headaches with those symptoms is because they are stressing about having the symptoms and pregnancies.

It's very possible that you may be pregnant. You may not have actually had a period in July.

Many women think they have had a period when they first get pregnant, but they actually haven't. When the egg is implanted onto the uterine wall, many women bleed around the same time their period is due. The bleeding is usually very light and only lasts a few days.

Trust me this is exactly what happened to me. I suspected I was pregnant but one day "got my period" (so I thought). It ended up that the bleeding was actually implantation and I really was pregnant

You have to do a test ASAP (which you already know) because if you are pregnant you have to stop birth control right away.

Good luck sweetie.

I was on BC for nearly 4 years. I was about a week or two late and I took a pregnancy test only to find out I was 3 weeks pregnant! Talk about a surprise! Don't forget, BC is only 97-99% effective. Take a Digital at home test, they're the best! Goodluck.

number one take the test. It could also be something more serious then pregnancy. Drop the birh control and the sex. Then go to an adult you trust or even a school councilor and get advice. There are home out there that will take care of you and your baby as long as you give the baby the same chance your mom gave you. the chance to live.
There is nothing to be afraid of . I had 6 kids

I agree with the people who say that you are probably not pregnant. It's very true that the pills make you feel pregnant. Ortho Tri-Cyclen isn't for everyone. It was too strong for me. Every morning when I woke up, I could barely make it out of bed because I felt like I had to throw up. This would continue for a few more hours throughout the day. So I swithced BCPs.

If you do decide to stop taking the pills, in case you want to wait till next cycle to make sure you're not pregnant, then you need to practice abstinence in the meantime.

Also, have to talked to your partner? Talk to him if you are in a good relationship with him because he could possibly help you to eliminate your fears. Because you never know..............

First of all... Have you skipped any pills?, Do you take them roughly at the same time? If you haven't skipped any pills and you take them roughly at the same time everynight then it's probably nothing, maybe you don't take well to the pills. One time I got into ortho-evra patch and I got the same symptoms as you describe and also I had a 13 day period! Well, I went to the doctor and changed B.C. methods.

I'd say go to your gyn and tell him your symptoms and ask him if he recomends a different kind of BC. Maybe that will just do the trick... Anyway, ask for a test anyway to clear your doubts, it wouldn't hurt.

Well the truth is yes you still can get pregnant while on birthcontrol a very small chance but not ruled out you still have a 1 percent of getting pregnant and it's not uncommon, But it could be stress to the reason you are going through all these sypmtoms to so all i can tell you to do is get a pregnancy test and see or you could get blood work done, Well best of luck and Godbless,

OK, calm down.. :)

Good news for you I think, BCP sometimes cause pregnancy symptoms, short periods.

On the other side. You must take a HPT now. I mean NOW. And then call your doctor, no, actually, call your doctor that prescribed your BCP now, before the test. You could risk birth defects and other complications (ectopic pregnancy among those) by taking the BCP while pregnant.

Please don't wait to test and call. Bear in mind, it is probably a false alarm, but best to err on the side of caution for sure!

GOOD LUCK!
