I HAVE JUST DEALT WITH THIS LAST WEEK AND IT WAS AWFUL. MY RIGHT PINKY TOE GOT STUBBED AND AT FIRST I DIDN'T GET MUCH PAIN, THEN LITTLE BY LITTLE IT STARTED SETTING IN AND WITHIN AN HOUR I COULD BARELY WALK. IT FELT LIKE A KNOT UNDERNEATH ON MY FOOT, AND FELT LIKE THE TOE ITSELF WAS PUSHED INTO MY FOOT, IT WAS THE WORSE, NEVER WOULD BELIEVE THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! SO I FOLLOWED MOTHERS ADVICE BECAUSE SHE HAD DONE IT ALSO A WEEK OR SO AGO, AND KEEP THE FOOT ELEVATED, STAY OFF OF IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE 24 HOURS AND BY NEXT MORNING YOU WILL SEE BIG DIFFERENCE AND THEN THE BRUISING SETS IN, HEY THATS THE EASY PART. I FEEL FOR YOU, JUST HANG IN THERE, IT GETS BETTER, BUT SLOWLY.

It might be broken. Put a piece of cotton or gauze between it and the next toe and then tape them together,,, the next toe acts like a splint this way. Keeping it elevated is good. Ice on it, as the other poster said, off and on,,, not long enough to freeze and stop the circulation,,, for the first 2 days. Some ibuprofin or other nsaid for the pain and inflammation. It takes 6 weeks to heal if it is broken or muscles torn. You can use some heat on it after a few days. Check with your doctor if there are any problems.

Ice that bad boy down until it is numb
20 minutes or so
Then take off the ice
you can do this 20 minutes every hour
Start some kind of antiinflammatory that you can tolerate
Tomorrow you can buddy tape it to the 4th toe to help keep it immobilized
Use cloth tape for this or even a bandaid if you can wrap it around both of your toes
Leave an open shoe on tomorrow to accomodate swelling.
If it is dislocated or displaced go in tomorrow to get it reset.

First I would take a pain reliever to sooth the pain. But keep using the ice and pillow. Pain will subside soon enough.

When I had an owey, my mother use to kiss it. I think that still works. In face, I think it's the treatment of choice for a stubbed toe.

It's possible that it's broken. If that should be the case, there's nothing that you can do except maybe wrap it with tape.
You have been doing the right thing. The pain will go away. Take some Advil or something like that.................
Hope you feel better.
