I have windows xp and i am putting songs on my brothers ipod from my account. He uses iTunes on his account. I connected the iPod to the computer and was trying to put the songs on but a message comes up saying " another user on this computer is using the iPod software, so iTunes is unable to communicate with this iPod. Please ask other users to log out." I have no idea what that means. Also when I go to file I can't update the ipod because it doesn't recgonize it. PLease any iPod users who are familiar with technical difficulties, i would really appreiciate ur help. Thanx

I suggest using only one iTunes account for both you and your brother to avoid these problems. You can even select which songs you want on your iPod and which ones he wants on his by selecting "Only update checked songs" under iPod Options.

xp is amulti user operating system.
1. log off first.. you may see two or three users there. if so enter into the user and close the things or softwares, which are opened..

2. try refreshing all the users and make sure that no one is on.....

3. control alt delete and check whether the performance is going on

Where are you located? There should be an apple store somewhere near you and they will help you. I live in Valencia California and there is one in Sherman Oaks about 13 miles away from me and they help us when my son's ipod just stopped working.
