cut down some 2x4's, stack the pieces together (until it will make the desk as high as you want it) nail them together good, if your desk has legs, then for extra support, nail some type of lid(like from old jellyjars)upside down on the pieces of 2x4's so that the desk will not slip off of them. we had to do that with a couch we had once, it worked just fine, and its cheap

Bricks. Benefits - standard heights and colors all match. No cutting of wood needed, no nailing, no money ... just ask a few people if they have any ... I would happily give you 4 from my leftover brick pile from rebuilding my chimney.

Try using blocks of wood. If you go to a lumber yard and tell them what you want to do I'm sure they will be able to help you. They may even cut the wood for you.

have you ever seen those furniture raisers? they look like hard plastic cups that you turn upside down...you can raise your couch, etc. You can find them at Home Depot, Lowes or any Ace Hardware store

this time of year they sell bed raisers for college dorm room beds. they are under $20 and they lift beds up about 4-6 inches so students can store stuff under them. one per leg.
Look for Bed Bath and Beyaond or linnens and things store.
