My son is almost nine months and has one testicel that has not dropped. The doctor said it's there but just hasn't dropped yet. He also said that if it hasn't dropped by his first birthday he will need to have surgery to correct it. What are the chances that it will drop by then? And if it doesn't is it a major surgery? Tell me what you know about this please, and only if you really know.

It's possible it is not there. They do travel up and down and sometimes a small stitch will keep it in place. Go see a pediatric urologist now. It is not possible for the doctor to tell if both are there. My nephew had to be put under and the urologist made a small incision on his sack and took a look. What felt like the presence of a testicle, was in fact a smaller sack inside filled with fluid. Apparently, it is very common and later in life he can have a plastic surgeon put in an implant ball if it bothers him. It does not seem to effect fertility.

I know of someone that had this procedure done while in grade 3...it is a somewhat 'minor' procedure and certainly not unheard of...(from what i have heard) I would think that it would be of an advantage that your son is only 9 mths...you can get it over with and he won't remember it at all...BUT...I think I would ask the dr. about postponing.....because it may just settle into place when he gets a bit older....(He's still so new, and all could develop as it should if a bit more time evolved......I believe that there are many of these situations...we just don't really 'hear' about them...talk more to his dr. about it...only he can give you the answers you're looking for....Best of luck...It'll
be fine..

I've had friends this happened to.
The chances of it dropping on its own are good.
If he does need to have the surgery, its not a major one.

Ask your doc about a who he would refer you as for the pediatric urologist-- then call that office and speak to the nurse there about your concerns.

I have worked in the medical field for 3 years... unfortunately not dealing with problems such as this... my best advice is to visit webmd. Do a lot of research and dont freak out. Your child will pick up on your anxiety. Wish you and yours well.

My cousin's son has to have surgery on his. He is 4 and I would recommend getting it done before he is old enough to realize what it going on.
