Discrimination has nothing to do with dictionary definitions. Heterosexual means someone who is sexually attracted to someone of the opposite gender and homosexual is someone who is sexually attracted to someone of the same gender. They are two different things. Just because you perceive that lesbians are not as descriminated against as gay men, doesn' t mean they all of the sudden like men. Your argument is flawed.

What in da Vinci's name are you talking about?
It's not that lesbianism has been more accepted in society. Rather, it's that it has been less vilified. Society, historically and currently, simply cares less about women. Society views them as not as important. It's not worth worrying about girls licking each other's privates, because women don't matter.
-I- obviously disagree with society on this. Lesbians face if anything -more- discrimination than gay men. They not only have to deal with being homosexual but also with being a woman, both of which society views as strikes against you. Add a black lesbian of a racial minority who's, say, Wiccan. Then you've really got someone who's discriminated against.
Lesbians are an -often ignored- part of the "gay" movement—enough so that most people don't even realize that the word "gay" doesn't even include them. Gay marriage? Lesbians don't have it either. Why don't we look for same-sex, single sex, or gender neutral marriage? That makes more sense and includes lesbians.
In my corner of the gay world, the University of Georgia, it is the lesbians who move things forward. The lesbians plan events, the lesbians get things done. The gay men just want to have a party. I'm with the lesbians on this one.
There's a reason I say LGBT instead of GLBT. So that my beloved L's don't get forgotten.

well youre way off base with your information... it is true that lesbians tend to be accepted more easily then gay men... but hate crimes still happen all the time to lesbians in the USA.. Lesbians still face just as many struggles as any other homosexual..
and man do some research on what the deffinitions of heterosexual and homosexual means... even if the day comes where gays or lesbians no longer have to fight for the same rights and are accepted by everyone... it will NEVER make them heterosexual... it would only mean that we were no longer seen as abnormal or outside the norm...

Wow. That's so ignorant. I know where you're coming from with the thought that lesbians tend to be nonthreatening; people think lesbians tend to be nonthreatening, but that's only because they're made to be jokes. There's a possible notion/belief out there pinning lesbians as bisexuals; people laugh and don't take it seriously enough to bash. Gay men are hated by both males and females, and people think there's more gay men than lesbians because gay men somewhat get the most exposure--as if gay men seek more visibility.
Lesbians ARE discriminated, but as discriminated as gay men? Probably not. Almost every one harbor misogynistic feelings, even females themselves. Lesbians are isolated from the general population sometimes, especially butch lesbians. For you to say everyone love lesbians is ignorant. Lesbians do face the same struggles. They can't get married in all states but one. They face adoption struggles. They struggle with coming out to their family and friends. They fight the extremely religious right. Their struggles are IDENTICAL to gay men's, so I don't understand what you're trying to say in that regard.
They do get mistreated. And bashed. Brandon Teena's brutal death even inspired a movie (Boys Don't Cry).
And look at it this way, there's no lesbian Brokeback Mountain gaining hype and box-office success.

Nothing bad happens to lesbians? Wow, I wish someone would have told that to the people who were beating me, both times that it happened, or to the guy that thought he would "make" me like straight sex by forcing it on me (didn't work by the way), or maybe to my long ago ex who sued me for custody (and won) of the child that he didn't even want, just cause I was a lesbian. I don't think that those people knew that bad things don't happen to lesbians. I'm so glad you told me that I don't have a clue what the struggle is like, cause all this time I thought I was being treated unfairly, but I guess all those things that happened were OK.

You reeeeally DON'T know crap from crisco, dude! Lesbians DO get discriminated against all the time!! We lose our jobs because of it, get passed for promotions, we are discriminated against by our own relatives and by those out on the street. My wife and I were at a party recently, and a big military moron was full of discriminative remarks when he discovered that MY beautiful wife he was ogling is GAY! We BOTH told him to quit staring at what isn't his. Guys hate on lesbians as soon as they see that we REALLY DON'T want any sausage! And some hetero women are mean towards lesbians. I think any woman who hates lesbians is just secretly aching to get licked out properly by one!! Lesbianism is NOT accepted everywhere, and we know better than YOU do about about what it's like, so don't step into shoes you can't walk in.

Of course not- "gay" is not about about a political struggle or how someone is treated. It is about no more and no less than sexual and emotional attraction. And the last time I checked, lesbians can't marry their partners, are not allowed to adopt children or become foster parents in most states and are not allowed to access their partner's health benefits, so your statement that they are not a part of the struggle for equal rights is ludicrous.
And not everyone hates gay people, and everyone doesn't accept lesbians. I accept all people- gay, straight, bi or transgendered.

Lesbians don't get discriminated against?
-only one state allows marriage,
-only 2 allow civil unions,
-most states don't recognize same sex civil unions or marriages from outside their state
-in many counties a lesbian mother or gay father can lose custody of their children in a divorce, based soley on her gender preference,
-many states don't allow lesbian or gay couples to adopt
-some states don't even recognize legal documents stating a partners rights in the case of medical emergencies, or death if the case is disputed by a biological family member.
not to mention the continued hate crimes;
below are just three cases of lesbian hate crimes from this week alone.

Just as you don't have a clue how hard it is to not only be female, but be a lesbian as well. Women have the hard way to go,earn less, work more even in today's world,so,don't go generalizing unless you want me to start on men,gay or straight

Wait.... what?
Okay, I'm going to just ignore you being an asshole, because that's all you're doing.
I'll just say that by using logic, a lesbian is indeed homosexual.
What does homosexual mean?
One who is attracted romantically and sexually to the same sex.
What does lesbian mean?
A woman who is attracted romantically and sexually to other women.
Do we notice a pattern?
If you're only using the idea that "everybody loves lesbians" in the sense that drunk frat guys at parties like lesbians, then please, get your head out of your ***.
