I have never danced on a dance floor in my live save for one instance at the 8th grade dance and on a cruise ship; on those occassions, I only did one or two line dances (which I don't really remember now). I love music but don't know how to dance. I feel that dancing would be the final step to opening myself socially and to being able to find girls/a gf.

If you have any suggestions, "moves", websites where I can learn/see some moves to try out, or other comments, please let me know. I'm a fun person to be around, and can make people laugh and have a good time, but when we run into a DJ, I just sit down and "guard" their seats/purses/jackets/etc.

Thank you in advance for your help!

The key to dancing great is just to have confidence in yourself. Laugh, make fun of yourself, jump up and down, act like your in your room dancing to your favorite song--- just have fun! What to do before hand: if you think you're going to have a bad time-- you WILL have a bad time. It sounds like your friends really want you there so make the most out of it. Think that you will be making a great memory so savor every moment of it. also: you could "practice" by swaying back and forth to whatever rhythm is playing in front of the mirror. if you're thinking about Club-dance moves, go to the club and try imitating what you see. the key is to RELAX your shoulders and SMILE. What to do when you're there: If you still feel a little insecure, be the first one to get all your friends to dance. Drag them to the very middle dance floor where it's all crowded. If you dance like you're having a seizure, complain that it was just too crowded that everyone kept on bumping you. HAVE FUN!!!

I think what you need is a dance class. That would be fun and you will learn more in a class. Maybe your next dance classmate is what your look for. Dance is hard to learn if you'll learn it from a video or website, unless you have a dance background. Hope I helped you.

Good for you for wanting to learn to dance! You obviously see the social benefit of dance. It also has exercise benefits too. You should go to www.ballroomdancers.com or www.dancescape.com or www.dancevision.com to find out where you can take lessons in your area, or to order dance videos. Both of my sons and I are competitive ballroom dancers. One of them is an adult now and one of them is in middle school. Both of them have thanked me for getting them into dance. They are both "chick magnets" because they can dance and they just genuinely have fun dancing. Every time we go out to a ballroom my sons are in demand out on that dance floor. You will be too! No more guarding the jackets and purses for you!!!

watch videos, buy dvds, go to digitaldancers.com, they are even starting an online dance class and have information on it. Put some music on and don't think "I can't dance," feel the music and let yourself move!
