He has been in a convelesant home since this.I am so frustrated with the re-hab he gets, doesn't get.He relies on medi-care and medi-cal for his re-hab.sometimes they stop and then i have to ask for thier help again, not really knowing the guidelines. He has aphisa,so he can't speak for himself. He is unable to walk or do anything for him self.I think the place he is staying is full of kind and caring people, but I can never get a straight answer, any suggestions will be really greatfully appieciated. Also,if anyone knows of any stroke support groups,I'd love to find one in my area.Venice/Santa Monica,California. Thanks in advance.......

I know this sounds crazy but unfortunately PT/OT gets paid daily in other words Medicaid/medicare pays them for the amount of activity that the patient participated in. During the initial evaluation the PT/OT sets small goals for the patient to set thru out his/her therapy. If the patient fails to reach these goals within the estimated time frame PT/OT places that patient on restorative care meaning that there is nothing else that PT/OT can do to help with getting them back to there normal routine. Nursing assistance are responsible for restorative care, which is basically 5-10min exercises to prevent the patient from developing further complication. The only way to get your dad back to seeing PT/OT (by the way that stands for physical therapy/occupational therapy) is if his doctor writes a physicians order stating for them to do so. The bad thing,it's been a little over a year since the massive stroke and usually the like o see marked progress within 6months to a year. I wish you the best of luck, strokes are hard on family but especially the patient, because usually their mental state is the same, but they can't get it out what they are trying to say or do. God bless you and bring peace to you :)

Bring an acupuncturist in to the rehab facility for your father. Acupuncture works miracles for so many different health problems. It can also treat several different condtions at the same time without harmful side effects.

hi... i would suggest accupunture, accupressure as well as physiotherpay is must for your father.. lying on bed for long may cause bed sores. So hire a servant who even does not know physiotherapy... just to take care of your dad...by rolling him over by sides every 15-30 minutes...
Another thing is use water bed as his bedding to prevent bed sores..
Feed him aloe vera juice 30 ml twice daily empty stomach.. and I would suggest if you meet some Ayurveda specialist in Grass Valley, California.. www.ayurvedacollege.com is their website
