As long as they include gays .... like gays do in their parades ... accept understanding heteros.

Yes I agree. I am a flaming heterosexual and darn proud of that. Why not have a parade. Freedom of speech is one of the freedoms that make our country great. Last I checked heterosexuals are still the majority in the world. I can see it now "World Heterosexual Pride Day" The only problem is it might be less colorful to watch than the Gay Pride Parade

Why should gays be offended if heterosexuals have their parade? Almost all parades are heterosexual parades anyway. The world is a heterosexual parade. Everywhere you turn. They're everywhere (except in sole gay gatherings, of course--gay people have to see to be around other gays.) Heterosexuals are around heterosexuals all the time, celebrating their sexuality with marriage. Can gay people say that?
Anyway, some of the purposes of gay parades are to gain gay visibility and fight for gay rights. Heterosexuals don't need to show that they exist.
Now... If your cousin is doing this to mock gay parades, that's an entirely different story. Maybe then gays should feel offended.

I'm gay. There's nothing wrong with being proud to be straight. BUT - the main reason why gays have pride marches is because WE are in a FIGHT for the rights and freedom that YOU already HAVE. We aren't JUST marching because we're proud of being gay. It is an essential part of our rights movement. I thought you people understood that by now. The blacks did it, women, too, and now gay people are doing it! Heterosexuals don't NEED to - but GAYS DO! Stop whining about being straight - YOU can get legally married, visit your spouse in the ER, and YOU'RE not harrassed at work, school, on the street or beaten and raped because people think you're less than human. You have no good reason to march. Get it?

If he's proud of himself, then good for him. If he wants to have a parade about it, go for it. He needs to keep in mind though, that while the gay community does have a parade to celebrate who they are, and the straight community typically does not. The gay community is deprived of many civil liberties that the straight community is not. Part of the reason for the pride rallies, so we can say to the world that we are here, not going away, and demand to be treated like human beings. I would hope that he would allow for a very diverse group of people (even homosexuals) at his parade, like we do.

Each big metropolitan area usualy has a pride celebration once a year. They are usually in the summer. Because their are so many metro areas, their are many prides.
For the rest of the year - the metro area will not have a pride. The rest of the year the metro area is already 90% straight! And even during that one time a year - it is not like the whole city is taken over.
Wish your cousin the best.

I think that "pride" is a tricky word, and that he's expressing something very different than gay pride people do. that having been said, he should have every right to do so; I just think that it implies (whether or not he means it to; though I would guess that he rather does mean it to) that his pride in heterosexuality as that of being BETTER than other things, as opposed to being equal.
Whatever though.

Its just stupid. He sounds like he might be a homophobe too. Theres not reason to have a straight pride parade because straight people aren't the ones fighting for their rights.

Yup, why not start a United White People College Fund (to counter the UNCF) or a Blond Panther (those Grey Panthers are becoming a nuisance) group ?

Your cousin sounds like a fool. The world is straight. Everything revolves around straight people- the media, laws, legal &financial benefits, advertisements, family support, celebrations, weddings. Showing you're proud to be straight is like right handed people marching down the street waving flags and shouting how proud they are to be right handed. duh
The gay community has to stand up, loud and proud, in order to get attention & demand legal protection. Being straight is no big f**king deal. Show me what you have to fight for, what rights you're missing by being straight.

That's great that you're having a hetero parade. After that you can all go to Washington and have a pickett for allowing straight marriage.
Get a life.
