500 miles
They approach each other at 30000 mph.
At that rate, they are 1 minute apart at 30000/60 miles.
The distance they started apart is irrelevant.

Missile one moves at 9000 mph, or 150 miles per minute.

Missile two moves at 21000 mph, or 350 miles per minute.

So one minute before they collide they are 150 + 350 = 500 miles apart.

since they are moving towards each other, the distance between is decreasing at the rate of 30,000mph which is 500 miles per minute therefore one minute prior to collision, they were 500 miles apart because a minute later they met at a point.

in one hour the missiles move at 30000 miles per hour
thus in one minute it wlll move 30000 / 60
==> 500 miles

thus, the missiles were 500 miles apart one minute before colliding.
