My first guess would have to be ... that she isn't interested in continuing the relationship between the two of you any longer... that she has made a unilateral, yet rational decision - it would be best for her to remain apart from you for reasons of her own.

My second guess is that she may be attempting to draw your attention toward focusing on "something" that only she knows at this time - she has a beef that she wishes to air and she wants to argue it out.

My third guess is ... that you are currently feeling confusion and disappointment and perhaps an urgent need to call her, write to her or be at her side to find out whatever it is that she has on her mind.

My suggestion is that you might be better off to hold your horses... unless you're due for a surprise birthday celebration.

If your girlfriend's message was a reasonable one and she has decided to break up with you... there is nothing to be done but accept it as such and move on.

If her message was a ploy to engage you in an argument or to offer a complaint of some kind... who needs that - now or in the future when she feels her next urge to push your buttons and argue? Move on.

If it's almost your birthday... call or sit back - but don't worry. For that kind of thing... she'll do cartwheels to find a way to get you to the party and everyone will live happily ever after.

It means that even though she still has feelings she realizes that the relation has no future and that she can't be just your friend. Since no one knows what happened between you two it might be smart to accept her at her word. Typically your situation happens if the girl finds her boy friend jealous, possessive, abusive or her parents don't like the guy and are making her life miserable. Maybe she is having troubles in her life, and likes you, but she needs time to work things out. I know it must be hard to have someone calling you all the time. Maybe she'll call you again when things are worked out, or depending on who she is, maybe she likes somebody else better than you, but still likes you.
