I wish that I could say that I was above all of that, but in truth, I care about how others perceive me, and I do believe that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. I think that there is a difference between caring about how you look and being Vain. I think that Vanity is ugly, and no one can wear that well, no matter how skinny or perfect you look. We have all been there and seen those people. Some of the most beautiful people that I have ever met weren't models, but they have beautiful souls. I have also found myself attracted to men that aren't considered traditionally handsome, just because they make me feel better after I talked to them than I did before I talked to them. By and large, I haven't really met alot of people (Out of High school...THAT WAS A NIGHTMARE) that are physically vain.

It is just not the United States. Do some travelling. The people in developed countries are the same. China has recently become a booming market for Mary Kay Cosmetics. A poor third-world nation may be more concerned about food, clean water, shelter, and disease. However, the people of developed countries are much like Americans when it comes to looks and weight. As for race? The ancient Amercian Indians had a saying, "No tree is foolish enough to have branches that argue among themselves." Lovely

I wouldn't say the united states is concerned with looks and race.. just some naive people..

The united states should be concerned with weight.. we are the fattest country in the world. We have the worst eating habits.. and our children under the age of 15 are becoming the biggest group of people getting adult onset diabetes (the kind you get when you are old)!

That's an excellent question. Aren't these issues so superficial? Could u imagine how the USA would b if blessings, encouragements and any other constructive things were the focal points instead?

I don't know why it's so easy to focus on these & other negatives. We don't have to follow those questioned concerns.

Happy Sabbath.

Look at the old paintings from early times.
People have been concerned about the way they look for as long as people have been on earth.
Why? Healthy looking people attract mates, sickly looking ones do not.
Need to reproduce is strong desire among all living creatures.
We want healthily offspring, so their for, the better one looks, the greater is his or her chances of reproducing

I don't think the "United States" is concerned. I think single people looking for a date at yahooanswers are concerned.

i think the media greatly plays up the race issue and perpetuates it. i think the us is concerned with looks because of hollywood. i think other countries ask the same question about why we're concerned with weight but then make fun of america because we do have the biggest weight problem.

its not really the US. It's just society in general...its not our fault we are fat or skinny its the options we are given...the only reason peaple care how they look is bc the media tells us to look a certain way....and no one really cares about race and if anyone does then they should dig themselves a hole and stay there

The US is a fast growing nation of popularity, fashion, and the 'in crowds'. And it is good in some ways, but awful in others because slowly our nation is deteriorating while we are all consumed with these things.
