Is·ra·el2 (ĭz'rē-əl) pronunciation

A country of southwest Asia on the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It was established in 1948 following the British withdrawal from Palestine, which had been divided by recommendation of the United Nations into Jewish and Arab states. Discord with neighboring Arab countries that had rejected the UN partition led to numerous wars, notably in 1948–1949, 1956–1957, 1967, and 1973. In the Six-Day War of 1967 Israel occupied the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem's Old City, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai Peninsula. The Golan Heights and Jerusalem were later annexed, and the Sinai was returned to Egypt in 1982. A 1993 Israeli-Palestinian accord granted limited Palestinian autonomy in the Gaza Strip, and a similar accord calling for Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank was signed in 1994. Jerusalem is the capital and Tel Aviv–Yafo the largest city. Population: 6,270,000.

Israel was populated through immigration. It happened slowly, but it exploded after WWII. Before WWII the land was controlled by the Brits who won it from the Ottoman Turks in WWI. They wanted immigration by Jews, but it was not extensive till after WWII. Slowly but surely the Jews came and were recognised by the western nations. The original land of Israel was not as large as it was today. It was originally split between the Jews and the Arabs, but when the Arabs attacked Israel the Israelis, to put it simply, won hands down. Throughout the history of Israel, Israel has always won.

The Arabs that lived there are still there. They are in the West Bank and Gaza and many are still in east Jerusalem. The Arabs want east Jerusalem to belong to them. The Jews are against it because many Jewish Holy sites are in that area.

1948 at the UN building in NYC with American and Russian support. They passed a resolution dividing up Israel and Gaza/West Bank into Jewish and Palestinian states. The Arabs attacked and took over the Palestinian state. Israel survived.

Before that, the British were in control. Starting in about 1890 or so Jews began the Zionist movement to leave Europe and enter Israel. Lots entered during the 1930s (Hitler and all).

In the late 1800's early 1900's Jews started immigrating to historical Israel/Jerusalem because of widespread anti-semitism in eastern Europe where most lived. During WWI masses immigrated to Palestine/Jerusalem which was in British control...the same thing during the 1930's when Hitler and Mussolini were taking control and accelerating anti-semitism. By the end of WWII there were millions of Jews and Christians in Palestine/Jerusalem which remained a British colony. In 1948 the British were ready to get out of the middle east and they created the very small state of Israel as well as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria...and they left. Subsequent wars with Egypt and Syria have resulted in the current state of Israel geographically.

The British screwed up in 1948 by not creating a state of Palestine for the people displaced by the new state of Israel...so blame it all on them.

Israel defeated the Canaanites. Canaanites were not Arabs and certainly not Palestinians. Canaanites no longer exist. The United Nations using the war powers act repatriated the Jews to Jerusalem and Israel after WWII. Since this land was fairly captured by the Allies during the war it was ours to give to whom ever we chose. We (Everyone then represented by the UN) chose to give it to the Tribe of Judah. Before the repatriation the land was empty desert and ruins with almost no population on it. The land was never actually ruled by the Palestinians. The Arabs came after the Jews made it into an oasis of wealth.

Well your starting point is wrong so any speculation about an answer can only be wrong. Whatever any human ever thought is god / are gods, is a product of their or somebody else's imagination, therefor god comes from people's heads, often from delusional people's heads, only sometimes from a$$holes who realized that people believe all sorts of nonsensical crap and how easy it is to use that to their own benefit. If however there is some being which created this universe and set the "rules" for nature, we not only have no evidence for it and therefor no reason to think it exists, it might as well be dead by now. But if it does exist we have no way to know if it is aware of our existence at all, much less what it is like, how it came to be, and especially what it wants from us. and by the way, the bible/qur'an/torah/grimm's fairy tales,1001 nights are ALL just books, written by people. Some of those people thought the earth is flat and demons cause diseases and snails melt and the sun is a disk etc, how on earth should they know anything about the origin of the universe?

Palestine never existed as a country, ever. The land was owned by many groups and countries throughout history. The UN gave the land to the Jews to form a Jewish state. The land actually came from the British. A lot of animosity was actually caused by the British because they promised both groups the same land.

The land was often described by Western travelers in the 18th and 19th centuries as "desolate" and "empty," but after World War I, there was a surge of immigration not caused by nationalist feeling but by the employment opportunities and improved quality of life that accompanied Zionist immigration and land development;

The area Israel sits on was worthless desert where no one lived. The UN relocated the jews there specifically because it was the most worthless land they could find. Through hard work and knowledge, the jews turned that area into productive land and then the primary industrialized area in the middle east. Only then did aranbs show any interest in living there.

Read a book sometime.

Israel came into existence when the British resolve to control Palestine under their League of Nations mandate evaporated and they left the area. With the huge influx of displaced European Jews after the Second World War then being unchecked, the Zionist movement, which was dedicated to the establishment of a Jewish state, was able to overwhelm Arab resistance and UN efforts to equitably divide the mandate into two separate states and the State of Israel was established. After that, there was a long series of wars with their Arab neighbours under which the Jewish state continued to conquer territory and expand.
