Many people believe that truth serum is some kind of mysterious drug. Actually, what it does is it causes you to lose your inhibitions about telling people what they want to know. You wouldn't understand any reason why Not to tell the interrogator anything at all.
In other words, it is a lot like alcohal. It makes you say things you wouldnt normally say because you see no reason why not too.

Alcohol can lower a persons inhibitions and thereby make them a little more loose lipped than normal. The key element in this whole thing is the BAC (blood alcohol content) and how it effects a particular person.
For example..a person who rarely drinks...a tee totaler, if you will, 5'10" tall and 170 pounds, could be raving drunk with a BAC of .12
Another person..the same physical size..but who is a very heavy drinker or an alcoholic..might not even exhibit signs of intoxication, save for alcohol on his breathe at .12
So...Mel Gibson...with a .12 coupled with his claims of being an alcoholic..put him in the "probably speaking his mind pretty much the way he usualy does" category. If he claimed, and it was accurate, that he rarely, if ever drank..and that he over did it and drank too much...his claims of not nowing what he said and so forth..might be a litle more palatable.
BTW..I'm a fan of the guy..but facts is facts.

No. I think it does take away inhibitions and good judgement about what is and is not okay to say or do. I think people get out of control when they drink because they are quite literally out of control in every way. I do, however, think regardless of this they are entirely responsible for all things said and done under the influence. They made the choice to drink and that is the consequence of their choice.

NO, BECAUSE I GREW UP HAVING BAR & REST. AS BUSS. AND SEEN PEOPLE "DESTROYED" OR "SOMEHOW DISTORTED" BY ALCOHOL, THERE IS NO TRUTH SERUM EXCEPT FOR PRESCRIPTIVE DRUGS,,MAYBE TO YOU , YOU TALK TRUTH WHEN YOU ARE DRUNK, BUT AS WHAT I 'VE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED, CHARACTER OF THE SAID PERSON REVEALED WHEN THEY ARE DRUNK, ESPECIFICALLY IF THEY ARE UNDERGOING SUCH PROBLEMS, PEOPLE WILL NOT HARM THEMSELVES IF THEY ARE HAPPY AND CONTENTED WITH THEIR LIVES. SOMETIMES THEY USE ALCOHOL TO HIDE THEIR FEARS AND WEAKNESSES, OR SIMPLY HAVING EMPTY FUN PARTY.... NO CORE
