You're horse would tell you you don't. Actually, there's no cookie cutter answer to this question. If you have a horse, you'll ride as often as you can. If you have to rent one, you'll do it as often as you can afford to. If you love horses, you'll invent reasons to ride. But, don't ride if you're in a hurry. Horses can sence our many moods, and they react to them all.

If you have a green-broke horse, it's best to ride them daily. Keep them going with the training, and don't let them backslide. Right now, we're dealing with dangerous heat in many areas of the country, so you need to take that into consideration. Heat can kill a horse when overworked. Ride early, or in the evening when it's cooler. I love to ride at night, however only in an area I know, and only at a walk.

There's an old saying: "Live to ride and ride to live." That's always been my motto.

Right now, once or twice a month since way too hot to ride. I do not ride in weather over 95 degree's. It's been over 100 and bad air quality.

I normally ride at least 2 to 3 times in a 7 day week period if school/working. Normaly ride on weekends than during the week. If I was showing or training, I would ride more than that based on their health and the weather.

That all depends on what kind of work you are doing with the horse and what kind of shape wou would like it to be in. If you want to compete and keep the horse in tip top condition, then you should ride at least 4 or 5 times a week (6 times can't hurt). I ride in the 4'3 jumpers at A shows, so I ride my horse 4 times a week (each time I ride I have 15 minutes of warm up, 30 minutes of intense training, and at least 15 minutes of cool down. My tainer also rides my horse twice a week for about 25 minutes.
If you only ride for fun or compete sparingly, then 3 times a week would probably be sufficient as long as your horse has good turn out and such so he doesn't get bored in his stall.
You can't ride your horse only once or twice a week and expect him to behave and cooperate with you. If you can't ride your horse enough times in a week, I would half lease him to someone who is a good rider so that he stays in good shape and gets enough work.

This depends on the horse but as a general rule the more often a horse is riddin the calmer he will be. some horses that are very spirited (like mine) should be ridin 6 days a week. there are others who can do just fine being ridin once a week.

older horses need less work, where as younger horses need more work

It all depend on what type of event you do with it. I ride my mare 4-6 days a week.. She is mainly for barrel racing, but because im giving her a week off, i am doing dressage. When i do dressage, i usually ride 1-2hours. When i do barrels it usually takes 30-45minwhich consists of...Warming her up, running her, then cooling her down.

If your horse is stalled, you need to ride him or get him out and lunge him every day. If he's turned out on pasture, he'll exercise himself, so how much you ride him depends on how much you want to.
