If your running Win95 currently, and the PC is more then about 4 years old, go to the Microsoft site and check the hardware compaibility first. (see link below).

All being well,and your hardware is compatible, you can install XP.

If you have the XP install CD, firstly reformat the drive do not try to upgrade Win95 as it will not work.

Just pop your WinXP CD into your Win95 PC. It will prompt you to format Win95 for the installation of WinXP.

WinXP will do all the format for you when you install. Just sit back and relax...

You want to use Windows XP upgrade version to reformat and upgrade a windows 95 computer? If so, its not supposed to do it you version of windows is too old. What you can do to fool the upgrade CD is to borrow someone elses XP CD or even Windows ME CD and when your XP upgrade CD asks for proof of a qualifying version insert the other CD and follow the directions.
