Of course it's all right. In fact, for some of us who still collect Transformers--it's downright cool! I've bought lots of Transformers toys over the years, but I acquired the biggest part of my collection when I was a kid. I have a G1 Fortress Maximus toy that I bought for $79.99 retail, and because I have the original box and both it and the toy are in very good condition, it is probably worth nearly a thousand dollars now.
Don't let your family or friends hassle you about collecting toys. First, no one at your school has to know that you buy Transformers or that, God forbid [heavy sarcasm], you play with them. When I was in high school I didn't broadcast to schoolmates that I still collected Transformers. And my younger brothers and our closest cousins shared an interest in Transformers.
Nevertheless, you're not going to stop some people, including your parents, siblings and other relatives, from thinking it's silly or weird that you want to buy Transformers. Well, pardon my French, screw them! Who cares what they think! If you're not 18 you're still a kid! Don't rush to grow up. My guess is that pretty soon you'll start to think about spending your money on other things, like cars or girls. I did. But if you want to keep buying and collecting Transformers into adulthood, that's okay too. Just make sure you find time to do other things in life, like play sports or games or whatever else you enjoy doing.
I'm an adult now. I have a steady job (indeed, I have two--one full-time and one part-time), I pay my bills and taxes, I do volunteer work, I’ve never been in trouble with the law, and when I feel like it I buy Transformers. But the Transformers I buy aren't cheap. Check out the link below and you'll see what I mean. So, buy, collect and play with Transformers, but don't forget to study hard, take up other hobbies or interests, go to college and finally, get a good job so that you can pursue your passion for as long as you want.
And when you're rich someday and you see any of those punks, who perhaps teased you about buying Transformers as a kid, flipping burgers at McDonald’s, you have my permission to laugh your head off.

Do you play with them or just collect them? At 12, collecting is.ok. When you get older, maybe middle-aged or older, they may well be worth quite a bit of money.
Collect whatever interests you. I would advise the collecting of items that are not particularly common. Always keep what you collect in its original packing as that can greatly magnify the worth of the item.

Sure, why not? There's people a lot older than that who collect Barbie's, Hot Wheels, you name it. If it makes you happy, go right ahead!

As long as they are the old school ones and not the crap ones they make today that don't even disguise themselves as cars well.
As long as you have Optimus Prime then it is all OK.
I still have my Grimlock
