because by and large people in general are violent, short-sighted and don't really care about what is "right" or "just" to all concerned, they just want to feel good in the short term. they don't care about the rights of the criminal, or else are retarded enough think that criminals have no rights. they see a crying family member on tv, and say let's kill someone. an eye for an eye is the motto that sadly, most people think our justice system should be run by. most people don't really care about what's right, just what makes them feel good.

Killing an innocent person is wrong. Killing a guilty person that killed that innocent person is right.
These are not merely two killings that are identical in every way, you have to look at the facts. Why are we so quick to defend murderers rights, and just completely let them off the hook when they kill people? I don't hear ANYONE that is against capital punishment show any kind of condemnation of the murder of the victims in the case. Who's side are you on?
Stop complaining just for complaining sake! Step back and think logically about your argument and you will see that you are wrong!
There have been studies that have shown that on average one execution of a murderer deters 8 murders. Is the life of one guilty murderer more valuable than 8 innocent people? Use your brain on this one, I know you can!

Is this a question for law or for religion. An eye for an eye.
Do I agree with it? No. I think there are many other ways to have people pay their "debt to society". We are really way more easy with this stuff than a lot of other countries. Do a little research on it, you'll see people are killed in other countries for a lot less than murder. Maybe you should try to reflect on what your answer would be if the person sentenced to die for murder had killed your mother, father, wife, husband, etc. Would you ever really know how you would feel if the person that was killed was your family?

We kill because of compassion for the next victim and how would you like to know that a person that killed was still on the street and if they are not killed they are sooner or later release back to society if they are old and no longer a threat (but what is to old for a killer)People do not get death easily in America and when they do it is because this was a shocking or just murderous crime. Come on tell me would you sleep better at night if Timothy McVay was still alive? Of course there are worst things than death just ask any one who has been a victim of a person who forces whatever will on another person.

OK, who is this "we"? If you're posing a theoretical question then here goes: We kill people as punishment or to mete out society's idea of justice.
It's not that "killing people is wrong," loads of societies kill people but in different ways that are acceptable. For example, when Inuit elders become to frail and old to take care of (I'm talking feeding tube, vegetable time) they are taken out to an ice floe and let drift into the winter sea. So they are killing them just not at that immediate moment.
It's an accepted part of their society like it or not.
If you have a "do not resusitate" request in your living will that is a decision that will mean medical staff are legally required to NOT help you live...they could keep you alive but their forced inaction will result in your death.
I just do not see this issue as black and white at all. I'm assuming you may be American or European. Your freedom was won via fighting a revolutionary or civil war and then a couple of World Wars. It's not nice that people have to be killed in the name of anything but they do. Deal with it.

We don't kill them to show killing is wrong! We kill them or else they will kill more of us. Do you even know what their goal is? It's to kill every one of us. Do you think we should sit back while someone kill our family and friends? They kill men, women, old people, children and babies! And you think we should just let them. No! Would you let them kill anything and everything you've ever loved?! Would you let someone walk up to you and shot just shot you? No! You'd fight back or at least run away. We can't run away, we can only fight.

Stupid huh? All of Europe and Asia think so. Most of the victims families don't feel any satisfaction from the killing and many feel worse. Just one of the many things needing to be changed in America. At one time 67% of the country supported slavery too.

We DON'T kill people to show them that killing is wrong. We kill murderers because taxpayers don't want to waste millions of dollars paying for thier room and board and medical expenses for the rest of thier worthless lives.

We don't often enough.
It's because they don't function in society and there is no good way to get them to stop killing or to keep them from hurting someone else or themselves. Most normal people wouldn't kill multiple people, therefore we don't know what to do with those who do.
