I'm not sure, but I think you meant ".*" ( " . * " )
If that's what you meant...
.* is a "wildcard" for file types. Meaning that it holds all the different file types such as .txt .bmp .jpg .jpeg .doc. and so on.
So if you were programming, and you wanted an open file dialog box to show all the files, you would put .* in the open file dialog box command (I won't get into details right now, lol). Whereas if you only wanted to let the user open a text file you would put .txt instead.
