I think I like tarts better than candles for their scents and I wanted to try and make my own because they are getting expensive to buy.

I make my own soaps and candles and I prefer tarts too!!!
You can use any hard wax from a craft store like Wal-Mart or Michael's.
I think the best wax to use for tarts is soy wax. You can get this at a good soaping supplier, or a candle supplier.
As for a mold without getting expensive, you can use a mini muffin pan.
You will need some mold release to get the wax out of the container. But if you use a Teflon mini muffin pan it should come out after it has set up and gotten hard, or just put it in the freezer for about 5 min. and try tapping them out. If you use soy it cleans up with soap and water.
You will find out it can be expensive to buy the fragrances, But an ounce will work for about a pound of soy, and really make it smell awesome. The mini Teflon muffin pan will make small tarts (might adjust how much you pour in) or you can use a regular muffin pan, (just pour less for a smaller tart).
I have included some places to buy soy, and give you an idea how much and what it would cost, and how to make them. I have bought from these places and used them as guides when I started out, so I highly recommend them.
Hope this helps!!
Good luck, and have fun!!
