Start walking at least 2 miles per day, everyday. It doesn't matter what time of day, but if you can do it in the morning you'll feel better the rest of the day. Just walk at a comfortable pace. It should take about 30-45 minutes. You'll feel better from the endorphines your body produces and since you have made an investment in your health you'll be less likely to cheat on the foods you should avoid. If you drink soft-drinks, switch to diet ones with no sugar. The new Diet Coke with Splenda is pretty good, and so is the new Coke Zero.
In the evening I really like to snack. My wife found some Popsicle (the brand Popsicle) that are made without any sugar and they are quite good. Much better than many other diet type foods. You can eat a bunch of them without any guilt.
Eat a little bit of good food throughout the day so you don't get hungry and be tempted to cheat.
In 3 months (I know that sounds like a long time now) you will be very impressed with your results and so will your friends.
p.s. if you eat at McDonalds, just get a regular hamburger and a diet drink or water. The burger has only 8 grams of fat.

I don't know exactly how fast you are looking to lose weight but i went from close to 200 to around 135 in about a half a year or so. what i did was i cut down on the amount that i ate. and started doing some more activites than i was originally. the whole idea behind losing weight is burning more calories than you take in. a normal person not on a diet probably consumes around 2500 to 3000 calories. so cut back to around 2000 or even 1800. then do activites like running, light weight lifting, stretching helps alot so pilates or however you spell it is good. mainly just increase your activies even if its just walking up stairs instead of takeing an elevator and cut back on some calories.
let me know if it works for you!

Don't go on a comericalized diet. They can do more harm than good in most cases. The best one though is WieghtWatchers.
Exercise regularly. Go for a walk around the block or park. Ride a bike. Go hiking in the mountains. If you want to spend a little dough-ray-me, go to a Gym and get a membership. (Don't settle for stay-at-home workout machines. They are good for only focused areas of your body.)
Watch what you eat and how much.
Half of the key to losing what is all about proportioning. The other half is eating the right stuff.
You can do this without much pain. If you are hungry for a snack, go for something healthy such as fruit. (As opposed to sweets.)
Thirsty? Try drinking water instead of soda.
Want a meal? Try eating foods with whole grains. Plenty of vegetables. (Avoid Iceberg lettuce specifically, it has NO nutritional value!!!) And have Poltury or fish regularly - instead of beef. (Don't cut beef out entirely, though. It is a good source of protein. When you do have red meat, go for the leanest cut. See your meat section at your grocery store for more info.)
Cut back on fatty and processed foods if possible. (Most cheeses are processed cheese food and are bad for you.)
Don't eat out as often. When you do, go to a sit-down place, and look for things on the menu that say "Grilled, Steamed, or Broiled". These are good for you and your heart as well. NO FAST FOOD!

I would find a high school track in your local neighborhood and walk fast 30 minutes a day 4 times a week. I did that when I got out of the hospital and weighed 150 lbs. I walked on the track fast and lost 20 lbs in one month and slimmed down to 130.
But don't eat fast food! you have to keep your diet healthy or else you are defeating the purpose.

Okay, what worked for me, and still does, is a low carb diet. I KNOW it works because I am living proof. You can still eat a few carbs but no where near what the average person eats. Don't eat french fries, pizza or pasta - you don't need them. Reduce your breads to about 1/4 of your regular daily consumption. Eat beef, chicken, turkey and tuna. Get Pria low carb protein bars and don't over indulge. First few weeks is hardest, but soon your stomach doesn't require as much food. You don't need special meals, diet books or other nonsense. Lastly, get some exercise outside your house - your body needs it and it keeps you away from your fridge! Good luck!

Decide you want to be the skinny girl you see in your mind. And change what you are doing. If you keep trying the same things you have always tried, you will keep getting the same results you have always gotten. In other words, be a different person. No, really. You don't need to lose "some weight." You need to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Do that and the lbs. will disappear.

I really don't know. I've been bored and trying stuff [not too seriously, or not even seriously] at all. And a mix of exercise, low carb, and whatever. But I bet it would be better to have a diet that would deliver the food to your door. I'm not sure what the website is.. but I think it's this. nutrisystem.com/special
I heard on their ad it's 10 $ per day. I don't think it's much. But.. I'm also not sure if it has no strings attached, you know how advertising works..

I've been eating one big salad a day ( with grilled chicken, cheese and even ranch dressing ) Dairy Queen and McDonalds have great chicken salads. Also cut out all my soft drinks. Other than that I've been drinking alot of water and eating fruit. I've lost 22 lbs in 4 months . As far as safe I've been just fine.
