I wanna know what happened to all the skaters who used to care about the artristry part of the program. Or has an age come and gone?

Looks like I wasn't clear. I meant, that I have watched so many who picked music they seemed uncomfortable with. It seemed to me that looked awkward and like they weren't enjoying themselves. I was just thinking about the great Canadian skaters who wowed us with more than jumping.

Skaters choose the music they skate to.

Years ago, only music (without lyrics) was allowed in competition, this still holds true with many. For exhibition, skaters can choose whatever they wish.

Some skaters took a chance and really showed their musical taste...Canada's Elvis Stojko, for one.. He skated to Jet and Three Doors Down among others a few years back and lately I believe he's added Greenday to his roster of programs....damn, that guy was/is great...but the judges didn't think he fit the 'mold' and he kept on doing his thing. Therefore, I give him props, the olympic judges may have not wanted to give him better than silver, but when I think of him, I think of pure gold.

Thanks for making me think about that.

Artiart is VERY important under the new juding system, so the skaters should be interprting the music better, but alas many don't. I belive that some coaches take over when it comes to selecting musci, and the fact that the music is usally somthing classical and that already has been "tried and true" by many other skater before, the young skater can't 'get into' the music. It has no meaning to them, and they might only rember how the other skaters have used it. Some skaters like Shen and Zhao and Sasha Cohen really feel thier music and use it to thier best advandage. It is from these champions we skaters should learn.

Artistry is even more important nowdays, than it was in the past, like during Kristi Yamaguchi's time. This is apparent in the new format of judging.
Sometimes it's because the coach/choreographer has more say in the choice and may not know the strengths of the skater that well, or sadly sometimes the skater doesn't know what kind of music suits her/him better. Sometimes the first few competitions of a season have moves/artistry that dont really suit the music, but the skater and choreographer/coach make improvements along the season. Maybe it's because other forms of music would be even worse?

They pick there music out very carefully trust me, it takes a long time and they listen to a lot of music. I have helped my friend who is on junoir level pick out music and I probably listened to about 10 cds for her, it's hard to find the right music.
