I may not agree with everything going on today but I could never speak out against America, my home, my whole life. How can people be so critical of such a great history. Even her own citizens have fallen into the "Evil America" stereotype by believing everything they hear and forgetting about the good our country has done for the rest of the world. Whenever disaster strikes anywhere, the U.S. is there helping no matter which country it is in. The media and the stories they preach are ruining this country. They take advantage of the freedom they have by broadcasting only the bad and none of the good. What happened to the glory of America? Today the U.S. completed a brand new school in central Baghdad that will house and educate 3,000 children but that good deed was not even broadcast on any news I saw. Good deeds just don't make money, I guess. Does anyone agree or disagree. Let me have it.

i see your point but i think it's a little misguided. first of all, americans don't hate america. we've just reached a point of polarization where if you don't agree with the party in power you must be un-patriotic. this ploy was used by the bush administration to pass whatever legislation they needed in the months following 9/11. and for the most part it worked.
but the 'war on terror' isn't going so well. people are starting to realize how inept this administration is at fighting actual terrorism. and the citizens are starting to voice their opposition. that's just democracy. always accepting what the gov't tells you is the right thing to say, do, think is a dictatorship.
as far as the media, i only listen to npr which is about as neutral as it gets. the media isn't saying anything untrue. lots of civilians are dying in iraq. the taleban has resurfaced as a power in afghanistan. anti-americanism in the middle east is fueling the war in lebanon. the united states was so blinded by invading and capturing iraq they let the ball drop on the two countries that actually had the capability of wmd's--iran and n. korea. these are facts. the media is an easy scapegoat for any administration (rep or dem) in power when things aren't going well.
the u.s. helps other countries in need when it serves their purpose. there has been countless humanitarian crises all over africa and the u.s. has done little more than throw some money at it. (somalia, ethiopia, congo, nigeria, etc.) where was the u.s. during the genocide in rwanda? in yugoslavia? armenia? the u.s. is not exactly the knight in shining armor you make them out to be.
the u.s.'s 'great history' is flawed as well but i can tell that's a useless point to argue.
finally, think about this: what advantage would media gain by making everyone hate america? america is who pays them. what advantage would an american citizen gain by trying to bring down america? it's the country they live in, work in, go to school in.
what you're referring to is called public sentiment. it happened in vietnam when the american people realized that war was not worth the sacrifices it caused. the public does not view this war in the middle east as a worthy cause. otherwise they'd be behind it 100%. and the media would to because they need to sell ad revenue and you don't do that by pissing off the majority of your audience. the media is just giving the public what they want to hear.
there's no conspiracy or hatred going on here. just democracy, free speech and the right to disagree. the fact that you could never speak out against america (or, more importantly, don't think others should) means you don't understand the principles on which it as founded.

Other countries medias are brainwashing them about America..Children all over the world are being brought up to think that America are "terrorist" and evil..All America is doing is helping the rest of the world whether other countries and people are smart enough to relize it..

And whats giving America such a bad name is that in the Middle East and other counties America is helping, there are alot of civillians dieing, and that is only because of these Towelheads ways of fighting...Strapping bombs to babys, hiding behind civillians, suicide bombing killing maybe 2 Americans but killing a 100 of their countries civillians, giving 9 year olds AKs and telling them to shoot the US Soldeirs....ect.

America is in right and always has been. The rest of the world is either jealous or isnt smart enough to understand what America is doing.

The important thing is the people of america are not united behind government actions that are wrong.
Sometimes they can be carried along in the frenzy whipped up by government but when the dust settles the true reasons become more visible.

To be patriotic to any country is to question the motives of self interested people who are in power.

No matter what the emotions generated by 911 were Americans are starting to see what the rest of the world saw.

what good deeds are you talking about? maybe the good deed of releiving the native americans of their land and giving it away? or maybe the good deed of forcing the black man out of his country to work in his cotton fields so he could have cheaper labor. hmmm maybe they built a school in baghdad because they blew the last one up. america was built by thieves and liars period. the fact that they help other countries out from time to time just shows they cant stay out of anyone's buisness. no one should be proud of that kind of history. the only reason america stands today was becuase they simply stole it from some peple who hadnt invented gun powder yet. how do you keep a straight face when you say all men are created equal and then own a slave.

I am proud to be from a country that helps those in need from other countries, BUT what about OUR OWN homeless, starving, unable to get health care, population???

3,000 children will be educated in Baghdad, huh - what about the millions of children right here who are illiterate (some even graduate that way), and all of the drop-outs?

What about our rising prices and stagnant wages?

What about the kids who are pregnant, in gangs, in juvenile halls, etc. - because their parents can't afford not to work and supervise them - not even one parent in a two parent home?

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm no sociologist, but I think that people are driven to have a "cause" of some type. They can feel like "freedom fighters speaking truth to power" if they're anti-American. And most importantly they can do this safely without any risk to themselves or their cable television. Speaking out against terrorism can get you killed (like Theo Van Gogh). Plus, it's often ineffective. You can't change a dictatorship, but the US might listen.

That school in Baghdad that you were talking about? that wouldn't have been built if we hadn't invaded under false pretenses and toppled a government because of personal beliefs. America is a Neo-Imperialist power, and all that is happening is people don't like the cruelty that we are inflicting on our "colonies" Iraq is on the verge of civil war right now... for nothing

The media has really stepped up their hatred of America. It sickens me to see what they are doing. You know its lies, slanted BS they are gossiping about. It certainly isn't broadcast journalism. I hope and pray these spoiled children of America never have to experience what the people who are putting their lives at risk daily to get to this country have had to experience. They have no clue how lucky we are. I will never take my country for granted.
