no not at all, when the baby takes it's first breath, the umbilicus ceases to function and there are no nerve cells or endings in the umbilicus.

Nope. There are no nerves that span the umbilical cord, but there are some as you get closer to the belly button, which is why you cut 5-6 inches from the baby's torso.

Nope. There are no nerves in the umbilical cord. And when it's cut (or it stops pulsing, which some mothers request a doctor to wait for) it jumpstarts the rest of the system into providing for itself. You know, oxygen from the lungs, nourishment from the digestive system, and waste out the rear. ;) But the umbilical cord itself has no feeling whatsoever.

No, the baby doesn't. While it connects mother to baby, neither mother or baby actually feel it. It's not part of the baby or the mother. Kind of like the placenta. Baby lives in it, but it's not a part of him. If the cord wasn't cut, it would still fall off evenutally anyway.
