I attend bowie state university, and my classes start august 28th. However, this past May my mother decided to move to Troy, NY to live with a friend she met online. I did not really know what to do, so I sort of had to go with her. But now I have to be back in Maryland by the 28th to start my classes at Bowie State, but I do not have anywhere to stay at Bowie State. And my mother is not going to take me there unless I have somewhere to stay. I did call the housing department, and they said they will be unable to tell me if there is space available in any of the dorms until late August or early September. But regardless of whether or not there is any space available or if they are able to tell me by the 28th I still have to be there on the 28th because my classes still start the 28th whether or not I have somewhere to stay. So what can I do? I need somewhere to stay, and my classes start the 28th.

Hm. If you're in class on the 28th, where will you go after class? Where will you sleep that night?

That's a real catch 22 they have presented you with. There are a couple of options: stay at a hotel, or a youth hostel, if either are in the neighbourhood, or get a copy of the local paper and check the rental ads. There are rooms for rent in private homes, in every university district. Even if you only stay there for a month, it gives you a place to start out from until the housing people decide if there are any vacancies or not.
And why do you need your mother to drive you there? If you're old enough to go to university, you're old enough to be able to hop a bus and make your own way there.

Good luck with the housing, and with your studies!

Obviously you are not a freshmen, or at least you don't seem to display your self as one.

1) Talk to your school. Sometimes they can provide a rented room on campus. Meanwhile you can look for an apartment to share.

2) Spread the word around that you need a place to stay. Put an ad in the newspaper, etc. Figure out how much you'll be willing to pay.

3) I have to ask--when your mom moved, where did you think you would stay?

Don't you have any friends from last year to call and stay with? Or maybe find a week-long hotel that you can stay in until the housing dept can get you in? Email around to friends and find out if anyone knows someone you can stay with.

Hitchhike there and sleep under a bush. Don't worry about showering, you don't want to make friends anyway, right? And make sure you only take rides from scary looking guys who drive vans with no windows in the back.

Otherwise, do they have an extended stay hotel there?

Get an apartment in that area temporarily. The college that i am going to requires you to stay on campus though.
