Yes. I have six horses and besides putting a splash of apple cider vinegar in their feed, I also use it as a spray. It works just as well as regular horse spray, it is in-expense and it is all natural. It can also be sprayed on a new born foal.

You can go to a place like Farm and Fleet and buy a spray bottle of replent that is not harmful to your horse. For $3 it worth the needless headache.

I wouldn't feed it. I would get some fly spray. My riding instructor uses Avon Skin-so-Soft on the faces and around the ears. I works like a charm for repelling gnats and the like.

I do this as well. I'm not sure if it helps much at all, but with bugs being as bad as they are I'm willing to do it. I do in combo w/ commercial sprays, fly blocks, and homemade sprays/salves. Use citronella oil in vaseline to put around sensitive areas like ears, muzzles, chest ("armpits"), or mix citronella oil w/ horsespray (I'll even use things like Show-Sheen). Everything together seems to work pretty well.

I haven't heard of this one! I have heard of a garlic powder ground up that sells in some magazines. Don't know for sure about that one!

we use vinegar as a body spray as well as a small amount in their grain, seems to work a little...it is natural, so I don't think it will hurt them.
