Completely dry basement - will be framing out the walls with 2x4s. Should I use kraft faced insulation? Should I use unfaced and then put up a vapor barrier? Everywhere I look the vapor barrier goes in a diferent space1

The vapor barrier needs to be between the masonry walls and the insulation in a basement, so the insulation stays dry. If you follow convention and put the barrier between the wall finish and the insulation, with the insulation facing the masonry, it will become wet with condensation. And soon the basement will smell from mildew.

Buy kraft faced insulation to fit the stud spaces. Paper faces the space and gets stapled to the front of the stud, facing the room.

Friction insulation without paper is a little wider and fills the space better. After it's done, just staple poly over the wall.

It's easier, too!

Try 3/4 or 1" waterproof styrofoam.
