yes- pets stores carry a type of drops made especially for that. you put a few drops in everyday until it clears the ick up. but you still need to seperate the fish from any others you have in the same tank if you have not done so already. good luck.

Yes, if you don't wait to long. If you have other fish in with the one thats got ick, seperate it right away. There are drops made just for ick, and follow the directions. If you have other fish with the infected one, get them out, and clean the tank REALLY well. Put gravel in a strainer and hose it down good. And same with any plants and stuff you may have in the tank. With plants, i used a sponge with a rough side to make sure i got the plants scraped down good. When you get it all clean and the other fish back in, give them a dose of the meds for ick, to prevent and stop any ick infection the others may have gotten but show no signs for. Don;t put the other fish back in until you are sure he's back to normal. Good Luck!

8inthe corner's answer is the one you should go with. Ich may look like it is only affecting the one fish, but it is actually in the tank itself. The whole tank needs to be treated. Turning the temperature up will speed the lifecycle of the parsite up. The ich is only affected by medication in it's freeswimming stage (when you can't see it). I have heard that just turning the temp up to about 85 will cure it but I have not had luck with only the temperature. I use Ich Guard. I believe it's by Aquarium pharmaceuticals. Do not follow the directions on the bottle though. Turn your temp to about 84 or 85, do a 50% water change and vacuum the gravel well (that is where the ich multiplies). Add the medication following the directions of per gallon, but continue treating for 12 to 15 days. Remove all charcoal from your filter before you treat the tank. After you're done treating the tank, put charcoal back in the filter and do a 50% water change.

If it is not a goldfish, raise the water temperature to 85 degrees and keep it there for 3-5 days until the white spots go away. The white spots are small parasites that attach to your fish and eventually kill them. You can also add the ich medication, but the temperature is the best cure and usually the most effective.

The parasites cannot stand high temps and will drop off and die. The high temp also kills any eggs the parasites may have laid in the tank.

keep the tempeture the same at all times so your fish do not get chilled. they need to be treated right away or you will lose them and spread it to other fish. float the bags 15 minutes when buying new fish and never put sick ones in with well fish or vice versa. keep a thermomenter in your tank along with a heater. make sure it is ich. looks like little grains of salt. make sure it is not fungus. tanks should be kept clean with a one forth water change every 3 weeks or so. never change all the water at once because you kill all the bacteria they need. never scrub your tank or clean with soap and never use hot water again it kills all the good bacteria
