To remove odors, I'll add bleach.
I use Amway Bioquest soap and Downy Vanilla & lavender fabric softener sheets.
IF I have some spare mad money I like Victoria's Secret delicate wash for my sheets.

Buy your fav fabric softener, the one that smells the best to you...and then buy a Downy Ball. You fill it to the line, and I personally then fill the rest up with water to dilute the softener so it allllll comes out, and doesn't stain my clothes. Then seal this rubber gasket thingy, and toss it in when you start the washer. When the washer goes into its first spin to get rid of the soapy water, the force of the washer knocks the seal out of the ball and it seeps into the rinse cycle. This is pretty good timing, and you don't have to worry about it midway through the washer run. This as well as another tip....make sure you layer the scents in the detergent and fabric softener so that they are either the same or blend well. Tide and Downy (and Febreze) have coordinated their stuff to smell alike...whatever, just don't go with a clashing pair, such as mountain fresh of one and baby soft of another. The mix will be stinky. If you want a third layer of scent to mix or match, take your clothes off the line just before they are fully dry, and toss in the dryer with a dryer sheet. This will poof up your clothes, knock the stiffness and wrinkles out at the last minute.
