I have just been offered a job in Edinburgh and so will be moving there from London. However, I am unsure how much it is likely to cost per month. Is income tax and council tax etc calculated the same as in England? cheers

Edinburgh is rather affluent and is becoming more and more so every day. Best to move fast.

Council tax is expensive, but that ofcourse would be dependent on your actual street. HMRC will deal with your income tax exactly the same way, as London for the time being still deal with this in Scotland.

Leith is the up and coming trendy hotspot, probs the equivilent of Soho, but more attractive, by the docks. Rents about 500 p/m. Get onto espc.com.

Best of luck with the move. The quality of life in Edinburgh is superb and will be worth it. People are usually astonished when they see the city, it's a bit of a European secret. Good luck mate, and remember to vote SNP when your living here.

rent about 500/600 quid a month for westerhailes. Go homeless and get a council house - 200 quid in westerhailes.
Edinburgh is dear, but if u want posh then morningside ought to do it - they have a waitrose. Prob 1500 per month. Hope u gotta good job and ure not a cleaner or your buggered.

Council tax depends on value of property. Income tax is the inland revenue u twit.

Edinburgh is not cheep - but probly the same as London. Edinburgh is a kind of touristy place too. You shouldn't have titled your question "how much does it cost to live in Scotland" because, you sasanach idiot, Scotland is quite big and a croft in Lewis would be a lot cheaper than a 2 bedroom flat in Edinburgh. also, Edinburgh is not cold. it is colder and drier than Glasgow but CERTAINLY not cold. It gets hotter there than i can stay alive in.

Your quality of life will be much better - apart from the weather- but it is VERY unlikely to be cheaper than London. It will cost about the same , I reckon.
