I am a divorced mother, and my son is only 9 years old. What I do not understand is why would a boy who has gone through puberty yet have sex?! I've talked to him about sex before, but I don't know what to do.

Certainly a chance to talk to him. If you have a male friend - perhaps they could assist and they could say they found it to make it easier for him to at least explain..... no matter it needs to be discussed. Do you have them in your bedroom drawer? or was this something he got from outside sources? Important as someone else or somehow he got this and either he is getting an education from someone else...or he is too curious for his own good at this point.

I have a 10 year old son and I would flat out ask him what he was doing with it. He has no business with one. He is way to young to have a condom. I really don't think he is having sex he probably got it from a friend or just found it some where. You need to keep the lines of communication open though because some day this will happen and you would want him to feel comfortable to come to you and talk if needed. Good luck and hang in there.

Tell him that you found the condom and ask him what its all about? Don't go giving him the talk about sex...just ask him why he had a condom. Alot of young kids just want to see what they look like and all that. But, don't assume anything. You need to talk to him and don't yell, argue or anything....give HIM a chance to talk.

It does not mean he is having sex.. If you are worried then you need to put your mind at ease then have a male role model that is in his life talk to him and find out.. Hopefully this is a good sign.. that when the time comes when he does have sex he is smart enough to wear one..

LOL...my husband was looking for a book in his 85 year old Fathers room last weekend and found a condom. Imagine his surprise! I wouldn't get your feathers ruffled over this one. I bet some kid in the neighborhood found his dads, took one out & blew it up and decided to be cool and pass them out to his friends.

sometimes kids are just curious and they pick things up and keep them. He might have even gotten it from school...these days they are giving them out to kids like candy. You can get them just about anywhere for free.
It is possible though for a nine year old to be having sex or oral sex, talk to him about it again and ask him where he got it from and be direct.

Just let it go after a short talk! just ask him where he got it! But keep in mind! Talk to him, tell him to use one when he has sex!! But just be a mom and let it go!! You dont have to worry until he is 13 or 14.

Don't do anything. No harm has been done and if you make a big deal out of this, it will damage him on so many levels. Calm down and forget what you found.

Just because he has a condom doesn't mean that he USES it. He probably has it just to be cool or be accepted. Lots of prepubescent males do that.
