Tuna fish by the tons, for the protein to build muscle not fat.
"INSURE" for the calories and vitamins. NOT "slim-fast" that is for dieting and weight lose. Protein shakes can be helpful, get them at GNC and also drug stores and places like Wal-Mart sell them at a lower price than GNC.
But to put on weight in a healthy way you have to be careful not to eat just fatty stuff. Burning it off may not be the main problem in consuming a lot of food.
Basketball is a very active sport, so you will burn much faster than most people.
A pound of weight is equal to 3500 calories. That should be your best guide to follow. You will need to intake more than you burn.
Adding a 2000 calories per DAY, not per meal will give you calories to burn plus extra to keep on the weight. Given you may or may not burn about 400 or 500 calories during a game or practice lasting 3 or more hours.
Use milk, cheese and ice cream for additional intake, and add some wheat bread with that tuna fish to off set the problems that can be associated with too many milk products.
Just a very brief outline but you get the idea...........

1) Count how many calories you eat in a normal day. Don't change anything, just eat like you normally would and count how many calories you consumed. This is an extremely important step, so try to be as exact as possible. Also, weigh yourself.
2) Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 2000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 2500 calories a day. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.
3) Weightlifting! Get in the gym and lift! This is another important step to how to gain weight, so make sure you are doing it correctly. For more information on weightlifting workout routines and splits, read the workout routines and splits section.
4) At the end of that week, weigh yourself. You'll notice you're gaining just after one week! Now, don't expect to see a 10lb increase. Gaining anymore then 1 or 2 pounds a week is unhealthy and means you're putting on way to much fat. So look for 1 or 2 pound gains at the end of the week. Don't sound like much? You can be gaining 5-8 pounds a month!
5) Heres an important one. At some point, you will stop seeing weight gain. At this point, you will have to eat even more. So, when you stop gaining for at least 2 weeks, it means it is time to start eating an extra 250 calories a day. Every time you see you haven't gained weight for at least 2 weeks, add an extra 250 calories.

Eat lots of carbohydrates. Eat them on game days. They will give you the energy you need to play. Our body draws it's energy from them so make sure to eat up. Go to the gym. Muscle weighs more than fat and they're the one's that will make you sturdy not weight. It doesn't if you're small or something if you have muscle mass you can take the punishment.

More red meat in your diet and strength regimen in your workouts. The weight lifting coach can help you with this in more detail. Get started right away though because to do it the right way takes a little time.

Rule One: EAT PLENTY OF PROTEINS AND CARBS!
Tell the Adkin's diet to go take a long walk off of a short pier!
(Disclaimer: Do this in moderation though, you don't want to get too fat.)

Eat lots of food - eat more calories than you burn off, which would mean eating a lot if you're active. Carbs would be good, I would think.
