As people pointed out - you can sue anyone for anything. Does not mean you will win.

In your particular case, what usually happens is that the victim's family usually waits for the criminal trial to be concluded. because of the higher burden of proof, if a defendant is convicted criminally, then it is a fait accompli that they are liable civilly. In your case, the death of the defendant means they can't be convicted criminally, thus the civil case will be longer and more difficult to win. More expensive, too.

In this day and age, I don't doubt it. People sue over everything. I don't think you'd win. But you never know. That would make a good movie though.

You can sue for anything and nobody can stop you. It all depends on the situation, though, like how he died and was it suspicious and all, but yes you can sue. I don't know if you'd win, but you can at least try.
