I heard on the news (and so it's true) that he's telling today's rockers and pop stars to cool it with the clothing styles, piercings, tatoos, etc. Does he even remember himself back in the 70's?

That's what happens when you turn into an old man, regardless of whether you're a rock star. You get grumpy and judgmental, and the kids are playing their music nowadays, and get off my lawn!

ROFL very funny - Yeah he's off on some sort of ego trip... maybe it was the Honorary Doctorate in Music (not appropriately) given to him by the British Academy of Music, and Julliard (even less appropriate) a while back - who knows? Maybe it was his egocentric tirade at the major singer (um i forgot her name heh) he was supposed to tour with (Aretha Franklin?) - he got all p'od at her when she asked him to play a certain way, yelled at her that "no one tells me how to play my piano" and the tour was cancelled.

Yes. He remembers, and he's embarassed by how stupid he was. Now he wants to keep you from doing the same stupid crap he did. Now he's just a sad old guy who can't believe how much his joints ache and his skin crawls from all the drugs and abuse.
