The rule is always look for the manager or owner. The waitress is not the proper person to hear your complaint. She is the waitress and only serves the food. She cannot and does not have the clout to resolve the issue. The appropriate thing to do is ask quietly if you can talk to the person whoever is in charge, without alarming other patrons/customers. Then air your complaint or wahtever. Respect is earned if you also do the proper thing. Whatever you do, your courteous actions will ultimately deserve a courteous response. You might even earn a table on your name.

do some chocking moves they will take away the food and give you
new one
put a worm or some bug in the food and complain that it is not fresh
or ignore your fear and talk to the Waitresses
"honesty is the best policy especially if there is money in it" meaning go to the supervisor if the Waitresses said she cant
give her hint that the supervisor will be called soon.
if Waitresses gets more than 2-4 complaints then they are sent home

I've been a waitress pretty much all my working life so..
We don't mid if you tell us ( in a decent manner) that you aren't really happy with the food. A GOOD server will do his or her best to take care of the problem. If what we do doesn't make you happy then.. the server should get the manager for you. Mind you IF you do this in a pleasant manner, the GOOD server will be happy to help you. We don't hate complaints IF they are brought to our attention in a PLEASANT way. After all , it is true, we DON'Tcook the food.
Of course you get those who REFUSE to cooperate and are real assholes THEN I never tried any more and just went straight to the boss.
Thanks.

I'll never understand why some people feel it necessary to take it out on the waiter/waitress. Some people are just classless SOBs.

Ask to see the manager and let the server know that they haven't done anything wrong but there is a problem with your food.
